By now most of us are pretty familiar with
Japanese teppanyaki, you know, flaming onion volcanoes, knife juggling chefs, and lots of delicious food that keeps piling on your plate. This is in large part to ubiquitous restaurant chains like benihana’s that have been around since the 1960’s. I personally have always enjoyed teppanyaki and it occurred to me that this was a method of cooking that would be great for the home. Its fast, fun and it looks pretty easy to clean up afterwards. So I piled into the vast landscape of home appliances to see what I could dig up.

Tepandine Rectangular kitchen model |
Low and behold I am clearly not the only person who is interested in this. Many of the top European kitchen appliance brands already have a teppanyaki model as part of their range. Despite this I wasn’t too impressed as all these grills were basically of the same design and of one size, very small – fine if you always plan to cook for one but a far cry from the restaurant experience. That’s when I came across a specialist company called
Tepandine. They call themselves the No.1
teppanyaki specialists for the home and they have a range of super cool looking products. To start with they have both
round and rectangular kitchen models in 6 sizes, from compact kitchen models to the very large.
Tepandine products look super sleek and their images show that they perfectly complement sexy modern kitchen designs. What’s great is that
Tepandine they don’t just stop there. There are also whole stainless steel
teppan tables with a grilling area in the middle. I have never seen anything like the table before, seriously cool, however I’m not sure how much you would realistically use it, though the same can’t be said for the Built-In and
Portable teppanyaki models.

'Shallow Dip' technology |
All models also come with something called ‘shallow dip’ technology which sounds really very fascinating; basically the flat cooking surface dips down in the middle when it heats up…… This sounds pretty incredible and not something I have heard of before. So for those of you who were wondering about cooking oils running off the edges here is your answer. I guess this means that making a sauce wouldn’t be a problem either, pretty ingenious. Combine this with ‘3 temperature zone technology’ and you’ve got a
teppanyaki device jammed packed with tasty new features.
So if you’re looking for the latest in modern teppan grilling for the home
Tepandine is definitely worth a investigating. I think they’ve come up with something pretty special here……
